GUWAHATI: The issue of appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) was raised in the Assam Assembly on Wednesday when a section of members of the ruling party expressed their dissatisfaction over it.

Raising the issue through the Point of Order, AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita said, “The person appointed as the Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU has his name figured in the CAG report. Gauhati University also conducted an inquiry against him.”

Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami then interfered and said that such an issue should not have been raised through the Point of Order.”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary then said, “It’s a serious matter that a person figuring his name in the CAG report has been appointed as the VC of KKHSOU.” The Speaker intervened again, and said, “This issue won’t be allowed to be discussed through Point of Order. If it is brought through some other device, I’ll see it.” Recently the State Governor appointed Dr. Kandarpa Das as the VC of KKHSOU.
