GUWAHATI: A two-day residential training of trainers on child and women care in relief camps and temporary shelters during emergencies was organized on February 14 and 15 at Assam Administrative Stall College (AASC) Khanapara to equip the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) functionaries under the Directorate of Women and Child Development (DWCD), Assam, at all levels with relevant training and enable them to deliver proven nutrition-specific interventions during a disaster to reduce the mortality rate and morbidity associated with malnutrition. The training was conducted by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in collaboration with DWCL and UNICEF, Assam.
The first level of the training was conducted with the nominated 65 nodal officers from all the selected ICDS projects in all districts of the state, who, in turn, will train the Anganwadi Workers (AWs) in their respective districts before the flood season starts. In any emergency situation, the AWs are the first responders to women and children victims. Therefore, the training has been conducted to stimulate the grass-roots workers and motivate them to work in light of these facts.
The inaugural programme of the training was chaired by Chinmoy Nath, ACS, Joint Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, and attended by Sangita Borthakur, ACS, Joint Director, and DWCD, Anand Prakash Kanoo from UNICEF, and officers from DWCD, UNICEF, and ASDMA, stated a press release.
