GUWAHATI: Reacting to Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi’s recent statement on the opposition alliance in Assam, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has made it clear that the Congress’ decision for an alliance with national and regional opposition parties is based on a common minimum programme for the 2026 assembly election in the state. The APCC has, however, made it clear that it has some organisational problems in stitching any alliance with opposition parties in the Panchayat poll.  In a statement issued to the media, APCC vice president Mehdi Alam Bora and senior spokesperson Rituparna Konwar said that a conditional alliance in the panchayat poll is possible at the district and block levels subject to the willingness of the local leaders. The statement has also said that despite knowing the stand of the Congress, the Raijor Dal has been accusing the Congress for the non-happening of any opposition alliance in the panchayat poll.

The two APCC leaders said that the Raijor Dal should have contacted the local Congress leaders if it was willing to stitch an alliance with the Congress at the local level.
