Guwahati: The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Kala Kendra intends to conduct courses on traditional performing arts of different indigenous ethnic groups of Assam in addition to courses on Sattriya dance, Borgeet, Khol, classical music, Holigeet, Lokageet, etc. The classes will be taken up by experienced faculty who are experts in their respective fields of performing arts. Classes will start from the 1st week of February at the Bhavan’s Kala Kendra premises, said a press release. Members of the Committee include Dr. B. P. Todi, Ramen Das, Kailash Karthik N IAS, Sharodi Saikia, Sailen Nath, Dr. Hitesh Baruah, Atanu Kr Chowdhury, and Prashanta Kr Barua.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded in 1938 by Kulapati Dr. K M Munshi with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and established the Guwahati Kendra in the year 2005. Himangshu Sekhar Das, IAS Retd., and former Information Commissioner, is its Chairman, and S K Roy, former Secretary, Government of Assam, is the Secretary. It is one of India’s foremost and leading organization which is recognized as an institution of national eminence by the Government of India and was awarded the International Gandhi Peace Prize in the year 2002.

Students willing to join may approach the Bhavan’s Kala Kendra at Kamaleswar Baruah Bhavan, Kanchan Path, Ulubari, Guwahati, or call 8723996749 during office hours (10:00 am to 5:00 pm) and collect the admission form. Classes will be conducted every Sunday.
