GUWAHATI: State BJP leader Muminul Aowal has moved Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami with a letter requesting the Chair for taking action against three legislators who, according to him, misled the Assembly concerning him.

In his letter to the Speaker, Aowal said, “MLAs Sherman Ali and Jakir Hussain Sikdar of the Congress and AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam said on the floor of the Assembly on Friday that I used to make communal statements in public meetings. However, that’s not true. This concocted and baseless allegation is leveled with vested interests. They have outraged the sanctity of the Assembly by making misleading statements. I request the Chair to initiate action against the trio.”

Talking to The Sentinel Aowal stressed, “My stand against the aggression into Assam from people of Bengal origin still stands. I have been taking this stand ever since I was a member of the AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) and not after joining the BJP. And I’ll continue to raise my voice against the influence of such aggression on Assamese art, culture and politics.”
