GUWAHATI: The BJP and its ally AGP have been on a winning streak in Zilla Parishad and Anchalik Panchayat constituencies till the filing of this report.

The counting of the Assam Panchayat poll-2025 began at 8 am in various parts of the state today. The counting was going on slowly as the poll was conducted in secret ballots.

According to Assam State Election Commission sources, the counting, being a daunting task, will continue till May 12 morning.

These panchayat polls were conducted in two phases to elect 397 ZP members, 2192 AP members, and 21920 gaon panchayat members. The candidates fought the poll with political party symbols in ZP and AP members.

Till the filing of this report, the State Election Commission has not declared the result of any ZP member centrally from Guwahati. Some of the constituencies declared the results of AP members. Till 9.30 pm, the BJP won 33, the AGP won 3 and the INC won one AP member seat. This is apart from the BJP winning 35 and AGP 2 ZP members unopposed.

The trend shows the BJP and the AGP leading in most of the constituencies barring the ones in minority-dominated areas. Significantly, in the constituencies under the Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency where the INC won the 2024 Lok Sabha poll, the BJP is on the winning streak.

Talking to the media, AGP president Atul Bora said that the people voted for development as they experienced peace and development during the term of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Chief Minister visited the state BJP office and addressed party office-bearers and members in the presence of State BJP president Dilip Saikia today. The win in this panchayat poll is an achievement for the BJP cadres and the people of the state. The people voted for the NDA as their support to its  development agenda.
