Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of seeking refuge in Rabindranath Tagore’s songs and verses from the Bhagavad Gita to mask the failure of the opposition’s unity efforts. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the BJP dismissed the recent opposition meeting as a futile attempt to counter the party’s strong organizational structure.

According to the BJP, the Congress, along with its allies, has once again engaged in a “short-lived parade” to project a united front against the ruling party. However, the BJP alleged that such alliances have consistently failed due to internal differences and a lack of mass support.

“The drama of opposition unity is nothing new. For years, politically irrelevant parties have come together under different banners, only to crumble due to internal discord. This time is no different,” the statement read.

The BJP further accused the Congress of betraying its allies under the guise of political “understanding” and condemned the participation of certain regional parties in the alliance. The statement claimed that parties that once positioned themselves as protectors of Assamese interests have now aligned with Congress, which it blamed for the deaths of 855 Assamese youths during the Assam agitation. Slamming the opposition for lacking ideological coherence and grassroots presence, the BJP emphasized that it remains the most disciplined and structurally robust political force in Assam. The party highlighted its large-scale membership drive and organizational elections conducted over the past six to seven months, stating that the process was carried out smoothly and without internal disputes.

“The belief that an alliance of ideologically opposite and media-hyped parties can challenge a well-structured BJP is nothing but an illusion—akin to searching for tortoise eggs on a mountain,” the statement concluded, said a press release.
