Sonapur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the clear winner in the Panchayat elections held in the Dimoria sub-division. Following four rounds of counting, BJP claimed a landslide victory by securing 14 out of the 15 Anchalik Panchayat (Regional Panchayat) member seats. The Indian National Congress could manage to win only one seat.
Among the elected Anchalik Panchayat members, several BJP candidates secured their seats unopposed. Baby Bharali from Dhupguri Gaon Panchayat, Geetamoni Rabha from Digaru Gaon Panchayat, and Barnali Rajbanshi from Chandrapur Gaon Panchayat were declared elected without contest. Other victorious BJP candidates include Preeti Bora Basumatary (Khetri), Nitul Kumar Das (Komarkuchi), Pinky Sarkar (Hahchora), Krishna Kanta Bhuyan (Malaybari), Runumi Boro Rongpi (Panikhaiti), Denson Boro (Baruabari), Gautam Tamuli (Tetelia), Munindra Kalita (Amching Jorabat), Rusna Kuli (Barkhat), Subala Rani Brahma (Naratap), and Pushparani Sarkar (Topatoli). The lone seat won by Congress was from the Sonapur Gaon Panchayat, where Jalaluddin Ahmed secured victory.
In addition to its dominance in the Anchalik Panchayat elections, the BJP-AGP alliance swept all four Zilla Parishad seats under the Dimoria sub-division. Jatin Medhi, supported by BJP, won the 6 No. Dimoria Zilla Parishad seat with a substantial margin of approximately 15,000 votes. Mitali Kalita clinched victory in the 3 No. Pragjyotishpur Zilla Parishad seat, while Swapna Patar won the 4 No. Barkhat seat by around 9,000 votes.
