Assam BJP to engage Assamese NRIs in developing state and strengthen global ties

GUWAHATI: The foreign affairs department of the BJP Assam Pradesh took a slew of decisions, including engaging Assamese NRIs in the development of the state, at its first meeting held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati on November 28, 2024.

The decisions are: (i) Engaging Assamese NRIs: Developing strategies to connect Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Assam and encouraging their contributions to the state's progress.

(ii) Building International Relationships: Strengthening ties with global communities for cultural and economic collaboration and discussing solution-centric measures to resolve international disputes, especially with Bangladesh.

(iii) Proposals for International Exchange Programs: Exploring opportunities in education and employment through cross-border partnerships.

(iv) Digital Outreach: Forming a committee to manage official social media accounts and enhance global engagement.

(v) Newsletter Development: Forming a committee to ensure regular updates and communication about departmental initiatives.

(vi) International Database Creation: Tasking Vavani Sarmah (USA), Manoj Kumar Das (New Delhi), Debajit Deka (Hyderabad), and Bipul Das (Guwahati) to develop and maintain a comprehensive database of Assamese individuals and organisations abroad.

 G.R. Ravindra Raju, organising secretary of the state BJP, was the chief guest at the meeting.

Others present at the meeting were Dr. Vijay Gupta, Dr. Pradip Thakuria, Shishir Bajoria, Mrinal Hatkhowa, and Sujit Biswas, besides executive members who took part at the meeting virtually.
