In a statement issued by the party headquarters on Monday, the state BJP thanked the Assam government and reiterated its commitment to honouring the icons of the people. The statement also appreciated the government’s plan to organize a grand event on September 8 at the Khanapara playground, where 1,000 youths will perform the iconic song ‘Axom Amar Rupohi’ as a tribute to the legendary singer.
Additionally, the party welcomed the decisions to issue a commemorative coin in the name of Dr. Hazarika, organize the closing ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations in New Delhi, and publish a book on his vibrant life and contributions.
The BJP praised the Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government for consistently promoting the state’s traditions, heritage, and dignity. The statement cited the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan in Delhi, efforts to gain UNESCO World Heritage status for Charaideo Maidam, and the Bihu dance performance in Delhi featuring 12,000 performers. The party also acknowledged the initiatives to highlight Assam’s cultural icons, including the erection of statues of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Holongapar and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi at Guwahati Airport.
