GUWAHATI: In a landmark decision aimed at advancing inclusive education and disability rights, the Assam Cabinet has approved the establishment of a University for National Disability Studies in Chhaygaon, Kamrup district.

The proposed central university will be located at Deosar under Bongaon Mouza within the Chhaygaon Revenue Circle. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government has already earmarked land for the project, eliminating the need for fresh land acquisition.

Highlighting the broader vision behind the initiative, CM Sarma stated that the university will not only serve individuals with disabilities but will also focus on disability-related research, education, and healthcare services.

Envisioned as a centre of excellence, the university aims to foster inclusive policies, support specialized healthcare, and encourage academic advancement in the field of disability studies.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the institutional infrastructure for disability rights, raising awareness, and promoting equal opportunities through focused research and educational outreach.
