GUWAHATI: The State Government constituted a Cabinet sub-committee with Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu as the chairman and Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta and Public Health Engineering Department Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah as members to look into the eligibility of educational institutions that had been excluded from the provincialization process, despite their establishment before 2006.

The terms of reference of the Cabinet sub-committee, according to the Governor's notification, are that (i) it will suggest the measures to resolve the concerns of these institutions, (ii) submit its recommendations that may include administrative measures as well as amendments to existing Acts, Rules, and Regulations, if required, and (iii) submit its recommendations by February 15, 2025, to resolve the issues of the provincialization of the educational institutions.

The Higher Education Department and School Education Department will provide secretarial support to the committee for its meetings, interactions with stakeholders, and the drafting of its final report. It has come to the notice of the government that many educational institutions have represented their concerns regarding their exclusion from the provincialization process, despite having been established prior to 2006. These institutions contend that they are eligible for provincialization but were not considered due to the lack of land documents, improper maintenance of records, and unreasonable objections raised by the authorities.
