GUWAHATI: Welcoming the Advantage Assam 2.0, CLP (Congress Legislature Party) leader Debabrata Saikia said that the state government needs to lay stress on domestic production to benefit the local youth.
Speaking to the media here today, Saikia said, “The revenue collection of the state government is not even enough to pay the salary and pension of its employees and pensioners. Many employees still have to stage protests for their dues. This problem will continue to afflict the government so long as it doesn’t lay stress on domestic production.”
Hinting at the Chief Minister’s recent foreign tour to woo investors, Saikia said, “So long as the government continues to seek foreign investments, the state will have to remain staggering under the burden of debts. If the Chief Minister doesn’t desist from making sensitive statements and doesn’t take measures to create a peaceful atmosphere in the state, investments will continue to elude Assam. Without having to make foreign tours, the West Bengal Government holds the Bengal Global Business Summit. West Bengal received Rs 4 lakh crore in 2024 and Rs 5 lakh crore in 2025 from this summit. Similarly, without having to visit any foreign countries, the Karnataka government also received lakhs of crores of foreign investment this year.”
