Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta rewards 3 for role in seizure of drugs

GUWAHATI: Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Wednesday presented cash awards of Rs 50,000 each and commendation certificates to Home Guards Anupam Malakar and Jasimuddin along with Village Defence Party (VDP) secretary Amiyo Paul for their honesty in rebuffing offered inducements and seizing drugs worth several crores of rupees from an Alto vehicle at Nishintapur under the Karimganj Police Station on Tuesday.

Those present at the function organized in this connection at the Assam Police headquarters at Ulubari here included Special DGP (Law and Order) GP Singh and Special DGP (Administration) Harmeet Singh, and Inspector General of Police (Administration) Nitul Gogoi.

It is reported that when intercepted on Tuesday, the drug peddlers offered bribes of Rs 15-20 lakh to the two Home Guards and the VDP secretary, but the latter refused to accept the bribes and performed their duty with due diligence.
