GUWAHATI: Two city-based doctors – Dr Ratna Kanta Talukdar and Dr Syed Tanwir Alam – have been selected for the prestigious 2020 Doctors Day IMA (Indian Medical Association) Awards for their outstanding contributions towards COVID-19 management in Assam.

While Dr Talukdar, former Principal of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital is now a specialist Gynaecology & Obstetrics department at the same hospital, Dr Alam, a microbiologist is Deputy Superintendent at Tezpur Medical College & Hospital (TMCH).

Dr. Satyajit Borah, IMA Assam unit president said Dr Talukdar has played a crucial role in making the COVID hospital ready at GMCH within a very short span of time. "Even though Dr Alam is in charge of administration at TMCH, he has played a pivotal role in conducting maximum number COVID tests in the State within a short time," Dr Borah said.

IMA's recognition to two doctors has come at a time when the Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been praising all health workers for their dedication and sincerity in the battle against COVID-19.

"I'm extremely humbled at the recognition given to me. The award is dedicated to all health workers, especially those in the remotest parts of the State who are working tirelessly to alleviate the people's sufferings. It is indeed a challenge to work in the times of COVID-19. The dynamic leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma inspires us to work harder. I am also grateful to my colleagues and seniors in TMCH," Dr Tanwir Alam said.
