
GUWAHATI: The Educators’ Conclave 2024, organized by WWF-India, brought together 76 educators from 38 schools to share strategies for shaping environmental leaders. The event, held at a hotel in Guwahati, aimed to make schools hubs of sustainability and biodiversity learning.
The conclave centred on the theme “Raising Generation 30” and featured a panel discussion with respected education leaders from Assam. The panel included Fr. (Dr.) Alex Mathew, Principal of Don Bosco School; Sakina Rashid Hazarika, Director of Ascent Academy Sr. Sec. School; and Monti Gogoi, Principal of Axel Public School. The panellists discussed the need for shifts in education to empower students to address pressing environmental challenges. They shared innovative ideas and best practices from their schools, highlighting the importance of transforming education to address the environmental crisis.
Dr. Oinam Sunanda Devi, scientific officer at the Assam State Biodiversity Board, emphasized the need to turn school campuses into thriving ecosystems. She encouraged educators to engage students in citizen science and local biodiversity learning. The conclave also featured an interactive climate education workshop, where educators explored classroom tools and strategies to teach climate change and sustainability.
The event concluded with a showcase of high-impact sustainability projects and innovative solutions developed by six school educators. Ruchi Rai, HOD Science at Sanskriti The Gurukul, presented a project on making paper out of paper and bubbles, followed by presentations from five other schools, stated a press release.
