GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has directed the MACTs (Motor Accident Claims Tribunals) and Courts dealing with motor accident claims (MACs) to initiate a massive drive with the assistance of district and taluka legal services authorities and paralegal volunteers to ascertain the whereabouts of the persons who have been held to be entitled to receive compensation but have not taken the same.

The High Court has made it clear that the MACTs and Court should ensure the conduct of this drive only in areas where there are no designated MACTs and the commissioners under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923.

The Gauhati High Court issued this direction to the MACTs and Courts pursuant to the direction passed by the Supreme Court of India in an order on April 22, 2025, in a suo moto writ petition (Civil).
