GUWAHATI: The Government of Assam has officially appointed Angoorlata Deka, former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), as the new chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW). Her appointment has been made under Section 3(2) of the Assam State Commission for Women Act, 1994, and approved by the Governor of Assam. She will serve a tenure of up to three years from the date of the notification, which is effective from August 4.

In addition to the chairperson’s appointment, two new members have been inducted into the Commission under Section 3(3) of the same Act. The newly-appointed members are Kabita Roy Saikia and Nilima Brahma. Like the chairperson, their tenure will also not exceed three years from August 4.

The responsibilities and duties of the chairperson and the members will be governed by the Assam State Commission for Women Act, 1994, along with the rules framed under it. The official notification regarding the appointments was issued by the Women & Child Development Department of the Government of Assam. It was digitally signed by Mukesh Chandra Sahu, principal secretary to the Government of Assam. Further communication regarding the appointments was circulated to senior officials and relevant departments for necessary action and official record.
