Assam High School Music Teachers insist on Provincialization of Posts

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Being deprived from their rights even after working in provincialized schools, the Assam High School Music Teachers Association (AHSMTA) now demands for urgent initiative from the Government. Addressing a press meet at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday, the Association demanded provincialization of their posts as per the Education Act of 2011. The Association also threatened legal actions.

AHSMTA Secretary Tarun Saikia said, “As per the Education Act of 2011 the high schools were provincialized in the year 2013. The posts for the subjects like Hindi, Sanskrit and Arabic were provincialized without any condition in the said year, but the education department seemed to take no initiative in case of provincialising the posts of the music teachers. Now, the government is going to implement the education act 2017 in provincialising the posts of those teachers whose posts were about to be provincialized way back in 2013. The government’s move to provincialise the posts as per the act of 2017 is actually throwing the music teachers into an uncertain future.”

The association claimed that a total of 376 music teacher’s posts were listed as eligible for provincialization, but till today there is no concern on the part of the education department. Saikia said, “Even after visiting the education department, finance minister and education minister, we received nothing except assurance. Hence none seemed to pay attention to our sufferings. We’ve been waiting for a positive outcome since 2013. We never wanted to follow the path of protest. We urge the government for some urgent action in this respect; otherwise we will be bound to follow legal action.”
