GUWAHATI: There are many directorate offices located within the heart of Guwahati. This only adds to the traffic congestion in the city. Hence, the government has taken a policy decision to shift the directorate offices to the outskirts of the city to ease the city's traffic woes. The first step towards turning this into reality will be taken on Tuesday with the laying of the foundation stone of the Integrated Directorate Complex at Betkuchi. The estimated project cost of the Integrated Directorate Complex is Rs 440.50 crore. The fund has been sanctioned by the Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority (AIFA) with an aim of housing some of the directorates located within the heart of the city in a single complex away from the central place, thereby reducing the congestion of the city.
The Integrated Directorate Complex will have 16 storeys and once completed, all directorates will be shifted there in a phase-wise manner. The construction work will be supervised by the Public Works Department (Building). The foundation stone of this project, along with some other projects, will be laid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a programme at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on Tuesday.
