GUWAHATI: The Assam Inland Water Transport Society (AIWTDS), in association with Directorate of Inland Water Transport (IWT), held a training programme for boat owners and crew for operation and maintenance of marine engines under the Jibondinga scheme.
The training programme, conducted at the IWT-run Crew Training Centre (CTC) at Panbazaar here, was inaugurated on Tuesday by the State Project Director of AIWTD Society, Ankur Jain, and Deputy State Project Director, Rahul Chandra Das.
Altogether 35 boat owners and crew from the Kamrup district attended the day-long training. This training will continue to cover all the Jibondinga beneficiaries of all districts where boat owners have been provided with marine engines under scheme. Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced free marine engines to mechanized country boat owners across Assam.
The latest training will empower the boat operators and crew in the technical know-how of the marine engine, parts and features of engines, basic tools and techniques for engine maintenance and minor repairing. The boat owners and crew will also be trained about the environmental and social safeguards to be followed during the plying of the country boats. The participants highlighted the issues faced during plying of boats post-installation of machines and the instructors of the training provided valuable tips to overcome such issues.
