Assam journalists honoured for best reporting on human rights and women's issues

Guwahati: Two journalists from Assam, Diganta Sarma and Kulapradip Bhagawati were conferred the Pabindra Nath Sarma and Kunjabala Devi Memorial Journalism Awards for best reporting on human rights and women issues respectively. The awards for 2019 were announced on 28th October 2020.

Diganta Sarma, a staff reporter of 'Sadin' weekly paper was awarded for best reporting on human rights issues. He achieved the award for highlighting the violation of human rights of a young girl, who could not avail basic education as she and her family were detained for a period of eight years in a detention camp on suspicions of being foreigners.

Kulapradip Bhagawati, the sub-editor of 'Dainik Agradoot' newspaper received the award for best reporting on women's issues. Kulapradip have extensively covered reports on women's issues related to triple talak, the small joys of a childless woman caretaker of children and the fight of a brave woman against plastic.
