Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) district instituted the Jal Sewa Awards on March 12, 2025, to recognize and celebrate the exceptional contributions of grassroots-level workers under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The awards aim to acknowledge individuals and groups dedicated to ensuring water accessibility and management at the community level.
Instituted as a monthly recognition initiative, the Jal Sewa Awards honour excellence in various categories, including Best Jalmitra, Best Jaldoot, Best Contractor, Best Water User Committee, Best Anganwadi Centre, Best School, Best ASHA Worker, Best Jalguru, Best Gramme Panchayat, Best Maintained Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC), and Best Self-Help Group (SHG).
The event was attended by Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Casio Karan Pegu, along with officials from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Guwahati Division, and other dignitaries. The initiative aims to motivate and appreciate the tireless efforts of grassroots functionaries in ensuring sustainable water management and accessibility, bringing about a positive impact on society.
