Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union deferred indefinite strike in LPG bottling plants

GUWAHATI: The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) has kept in abeyance its proposed indefinite strike from March 4 until March 25, 2023, following an assurance from the Chief General Manager of IOC (Indian Oil Corporation).

Speaking to the media, APMU general secretary Ramen Das said, "We had a meeting with the IOC Chief General Manager at the LPG Bottling Plant at North Guwahati yesterday. The Chief General Manager and others present at the meeting considered the demands raised by the labourers as genuine. To meet the demands, the Chief General Manager of the IOC will call a meeting of all stakeholders on March 20, 2023. This assurance from the Chief General Manager made us keep our indefinite strike in abeyance till March 25, 2023."

There are six LPG bottling plants in the state under IOC at North Guwahati, Sarpara (near Bojoy Nagar), Jaraltola (Cachar), Dhaligaon (Bongaigaon), Duliajan (Dibrugarh), and Gopanari (Tinsukia). The seventh LPG bottling plant is in Numaligarh under BPCL.

The LPG bottling plant at North Guwahati produces more than 10,000 LPG cylinders per day.

"We are demanding a basic pay scale, the Provident Fund, and Employees State Insurance (ESI) for the workers engaged in bottling plants, LPG cylinder-carrying trucks, and LPG-carrying trucks," said
