GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee condemned the alleged threats and communal remarks made by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Addressing a press conference, senior Congress leader Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury stated that the CM’s remarks were a clear attempt to promote communal discord in the state.
According to Choudhury, the CM’s statement, in which he mentioned the names of two individuals and threatened to “finish them off”, was a blatant violation of the law. The Congress leader emphasized that such remarks were unacceptable, especially from a person holding a constitutional position.
Choudhury further alleged that the CM’s actions were a deliberate attempt to create communal tensions in the state. He cited the recent example of the state government’s decision to keep schools open on Eid day, which, he claimed, was a clear attempt to hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.
The Congress leader also questioned the BJP’s stance on the issue, asking if the party endorsed the CM’s views. He demanded clarification from the state BJP president, Dilip Saikia.
