Guwahati: The prestigious Pratima Barua Pandey Memorial Award for 2024 will be conferred upon renowned folk artiste Durgeshwar Sonowal from Dibrugarh. The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has selected Sonowal in recognition of his significant contributions to preserving and promoting Assamese folk culture.
AASU President Utpal Sharma and General Secretary Sarjun Hanse stated that the award will be presented during a special ceremony on December 27, observed as the death anniversary of the legendary folk singer Pratima Barua Pandey. The event will take place at the Sahid Uddyan at Chandmari.
The union has invited all members and cultural enthusiasts to participate in the ceremony to honour Sonowal's dedication to Assamese folk traditions.
