Guwahati: The Dispur Capital Complex in Guwahati has been brought under a prohibitory order effective from December 19, 2024, aimed at maintaining public order and ensuring smooth government operations. The order, issued by Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the East Police District, restricts gatherings of more than five people, protests, processions, and slogan-shouting within a one-kilometre radius of the complex, unless explicitly authorized by the authorities.

The directive, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, 2023, follows intelligence inputs suggesting that certain groups may attempt to disrupt government functions, create traffic congestion, or disturb public peace. “The restrictions are being implemented as a preventive measure to ensure uninterrupted government activities, smooth traffic flow, and public tranquillity,” a police official stated. The order will remain in effect until further notice, and individuals or organizations dissatisfied with the directive can submit written objections to the Deputy Commissioner of Police for potential modification or revocation. This move comes amid heightened concerns about protests and other disruptive activities in the area, underscoring the authorities’ intent to preempt any challenges to the functioning of the state administration.
