GUWAHATI: The Assam government is currently re-constructing 487 schools across the state under the School Education Department, with a total investment of Rs 3,179.86 crore. The initiative includes 100 Tea Garden Model Schools and 387 Secondary Schools, aimed at strengthening the state’s education infrastructure.
According to officials, the 100 Tea Garden Model Schools are being funded through the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) with an allocation of Rs 380 crore. Additionally, 115 schools are under construction as part of the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), with a budget of Rs 920 crore. Furthermore, 252 schools are being developed under the RIDF, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,827 crore, while 20 schools are being constructed under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE), with a total budget of Rs 132.86 crore. Recently, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu reviewed the progress of these projects in Dispur and directed officials to expedite construction work to ensure timely completion. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the state’s education system, particularly in rural and tea garden areas.
