Education department issues guidelines
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Department of Higher Education (DHE) issued guidelines for the Dr Bani Kanta Kakati merit award under the Pragyan Bharati Schemes for the academic year 2025-26. The criteria have been changed this year; the students must obtain 80% or more marks in the Higher Secondary Final Examination, 2025, conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). Earlier, the students got scooters, securing 70% for boys and 60% for girls in the HS final examination.
According to the guidelines, this year, the students who appeared in the betterment will not be eligible for the scheme. Also, the students must be residents of Assam, but those students who were admitted to institutions outside the state are also eligible, provided they have a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) for Assam.
This process is an application-based scheme/programme, and no offline applicants would be available.
DHE will collect the list of students with 80% and above marks from ASSEB, and the list of beneficiaries will be uploaded to https://directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in/. The eligible students will fill out an online application form. The Director of Higher Education will notify a list of Nodal Principals for smooth distribution of scooters to eligible beneficiaries, and also the Nodal Principals will be responsible for collecting the Appreciation Certificates from DHE.
The eligible students will collect Appreciation Certificates from the nodal principal concerned and submit the same to the allotted dealer. The government will provide the amount for scooter registration and insurance to the nodal principals. After properly verifying the beneficiary details, the nodal principals will release the money to the concerned dealer without delay. The students will have to collect the scooters from the dealers concerned. The students will not pay any money to the dealers for the cost of registration.
The beneficiaries of the Dr Bani Kanta Kakati awards under the Pragyan Bharati Schemes shall not be eligible for the “Nijut Moina Scheme”; however, if any girl beneficiary opts out of the award, then she can apply for the Nijut Moina Scheme.
