Assam startup ‘The Nest’ a state-owned Marquee completes one year

GUWAHATI: Assam Startup- The Nest, a state-owned Marquee built by the government of Assam under the aegis of Industries and Commerce Department has completed one year of its operation.

Prior to the occasion of completion of one year, The Nest, which was set up as a part of the Assam Startup Policy 2017 with the aim to promote a culture of entrepreneurship in Assam and transforming the state into a major startup hub organized the Stakeholders Meet 2020 on Wednesday. It launched several new initiatives on the stakeholder's meeting.

The special initiatives launched on Wednesday are – the Pre-Incubation program and Nest Ideathon. Whereas the Pre-Incubation Program has been launched for fledging startups with promising ideas in order to help them move from idea to the prototype stage, the Nest Ideathon, on the other hand, has been curated to identify innovative ideas in various colleges and universities.

Besides these two programs, it also launched an Entrepreneurship Development Centre Network (EDCN) and the Assam Angels Network in the presence of Minister of Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Talking to Media, Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “Assam Startup had completed its one year. In this one year a total of 50 startups were started, among which 25 startups have succeeded in earning. Besides providing employment to around 40 thousand 700 people, these 25 startups have enabled themselves reaching at around 3 lakh 20 thousand people. It’s a success on our part and we hope to witness more success in coming days.”

Patowary further said that – “We’ve already started a startup policy. Through the startup policy of the government of Assam one entrepreneur will get financial assistance of upto Rs. 50 lakh.”
