GUWAHATI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, during their visit to Bongao in Boko under Kamrup (Rural) district to sound the bugle for the upcoming Assembly elections, repeatedly referred to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in their speeches before party leaders and workers. By focusing so prominently on Dr. Sarma, they have only reaffirmed that under his leadership, the BJP is poised to secure a sweeping majority in the forthcoming elections.
Dulen Nayak, state president of the BJP Tea Tribes Morcha, said in a statement that the Congress party has failed to acknowledge the all-round development of Assam. They are blind to the massive recruitment of over one lakh youths. The peaceful environment of the state also escapes their vision. It seems they lack the eyesight to witness the progress happening on the ground, he said.
He further stated that the true nature of the Congress is being exposed as its leaders visit Assam only to raise their voices in support of illegal settlers who have encroached upon forests, government lands, xatras (monasteries), and temple premises. Their only agenda appears to be securing homes and land for suspected illegal immigrants, while having no sense of responsibility toward the indigenous people of Assam.
He said let Congress assess for itself how much it had actually increased the wages of tea workers, or what genuine steps it had taken in the domains of welfare, education, healthcare, development, and a secure future for the tea community. Tea workers today are well aware of these realities.
