GUWAHATI: The Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden has received five new inmates, and they were released for visitors on Monday by the state minister for environment and forests, Chandra Mohan Patowary. The zoo has received a pair of zebras, a giraffe, and a pair of Mandarin ducks.
The two zebras, named Jay and Jaya, as well as Mandarin ducks, come from the Mysore Zoo. While the female giraffe named Bijaya comes from the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park. Known as the Patna Zoo, it received a pair of Hoolock gibbons, one male black panther, and a female rhinoceros in exchange for the giraffe. A group of experts visited the Patna Zoo to complete the formalities of the exchange.
