GUWAHATI: Based on the information, the Special Task Force (STF) apprehended two peddlers along with a huge quantity of narcotics worth Rs 15 crore on Tuesday.

According to sources, information was received in the early hours of the morning that a TATA DI bearing registration AS 25 EC 4464 would be carrying narcotics from Manipur. Therefore, as per information, a team led by Addl SP STF Kalyan Pathak carried out an operation and intercepted the vehicle at Saraighat.

But as soon as the peddlers learned about the police operation, they tried to flee from the scene, but two rounds were fired to subdue the peddlers. Accordingly, the vehicle was searched and indicated the presence of a hidden chamber, which was cut open and recovered 1 kg 800 gm of heroin. The team seized the narcotics and apprehended the peddlers. They are identified as Sonu Ali of Garigaon and Arjun Basfore of Jalukbari.

According to sources, the market value of the seized items is approximately Rs 15 crore.
