GUWAHATI: A fatal accident was reported on Saturday night near Rani, located on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam, claiming the life of a 14-year-old girl. The teenager had slipped into a water-filled excavation trench while bathing with her friends at Andherijuli.
Reports show that the pit, dug illegally with an excavator, was a major threat to the residents of Lucia. The girl lost her balance and fell into the deep pit, prompting a desperate search for her by her friends and residents in the area.
As soon as the locals received news of the accident, they immediately organized to help with the rescue operation. Sadly, the girl was found dead in the filled pit. The prompt action by the community shows the importance of dealing with the safety risks arising from such digs in farming land throughout Rani.
The incident has ignited outrage among locals, and they are demanding accountability of the illegal excavations that have worsened the security of the region. Authorities are being called upon to act swiftly against the parties responsible for the risky excavations to avoid more tragedies.
