PALASBARI: The 76th edition of Van Mahotsav, annual tree plantation festival, was celebrated with great enthusiasm near the Tiyamari ABA Nursery under the Kulsi Range In Kamrup West Division on Monday.
The event was organized by the Office of the Kulsi Range Officer, Western Kamrup Forest Division, and witnessed the active participation of senior government representatives, forest officials, students, and local residents.
Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister for Forest and Environment, Government of Assam, was the chief guest. The minister expressed happiness after planting a mahogany sapling and personally distributed saplings among young students, encouraging them to actively engage in environmental conservation. Following the plantation activity, Minister Patowary addressed a large gathering during the closing ceremony, highlighting the critical role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and sustainable development. He also formally released four environment-related books published by the Office of the Silviculturist, Assam, as part of the celebrations.
Among other dignitaries present were Hemanga Thakuria, MLA of Palasbari LAC, Sandeep Kumar, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Assam, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Kamrup West Division Subhod Talukdar, Kulsi forest range officer Kankan Jyoti Kaushik, and other senior officials from the Assam forest department.
A special meeting was also held at Tiyamari to address local forest-related concerns and promote awareness on environmental protection. The celebration of Van Mahotsav once again reaffirmed the Assam Government’s commitment to enhancing forest cover, promoting sustainable green practices, and involving the community, especially the youth in preserving nature.
