GUWAHATI: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu declares that the state will observe 31st March as Students’ Day to pay tribute to the students’ leader Upendra Nath Brahma who was born on March 31, 1956. He adds that the Government of Assam has dedicated this day to the leader, and therefore, Students’ Day will have to be observed in all educational institutions of the state.

On March 31, several schemes will be launched in a central programme to be held at Shankardeva Kalakshetra like (i) distribution of 52,000 tablets to schools, (ii) scholarship to 26,225 girl students belonging to minority communities, (iii) mobility grant of Rs. 10,000 per girl student to a total of 7723 pursuing post graduate degrees in state universities, (iv) book grant to 341663 under graduate level students, (v) Mess dues incentive to UG and PG level students and (vi) fee waver grant to colleges.
