Assamese play Swabhavjata staged for facilitating wildlife conservation by NRL EXOCON

GUWAHATI: NRL EXOCON, a registered society of past and presently serving officers of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) as well as ex-officers of NRL presently working in other public sector hydrocarbon industry has successfully organized a play “Swabhavjata” created by the theatre group “Seagull” based on a story of Apu Bharadwaj and directed by noted theatre personality Baharul Islam. The play was staged at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium of Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra on December 16, 2018 and was very well received by a discerning audience.

Prior to start of the play, young wildlife conservationist and environmentalist Tenzing Bodosa of Udalguri district was warmly felicitated by NRL EXOCON and presented with an honorarium to encourage him to pursue his eco-friendly farming techniques. He does not cut down trees in his estate or start a fire; instead he plants bamboo trees on which wild elephants feed. He has also not put any barriers in and around his plantations, so that wild animals from the jungle can freely roam around. It is therefore not surprising that his farms have been certified as the world’s first “elephant friendly farms” by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). At close of the program, interested members from the audience were presented with a plant sapling each and urged to grow and nurture it in their own home garden. This was in keeping with the customary practice embraced by NRL EXOCON – a relatively young organization active in its pursuit of creating awareness of the need to conserve the natural environment of Assam and regenerate its degraded forests. Even last year in 2017 it successfully organized a conference on the theme “Greening Assam” and had honoured another eminent wildlife biologist and conservationist of Assam, a press release stated.
