Assign a Director who has Degree in Agricultural Science: AASOA

GUWAHATI: The Assam Agricultural Service Officers' Association (AASOA) on Friday demanded that the post of Director in the Agriculture department should be assigned to an officer who has a degree in Agricultural Science with adequate knowledge on the subject.

It has alleged that from last four years the post was being headed by officers who don't have any adequate knowledge on the subject.

"For the post of Director in Agriculture Department, an undeclared competition is prevailing among the civil servants," the AASOA alleged.

The Association underlined that recently, Agriculture Department Director Manoj Kumar was removed from the post and a new director named Akashdeep was assigned for the post.

"Manoj Kumar informed us that he had to seek judicial help after he was removed from the post. However, now he will resume the post of the Director in the Agriculture Department," the Association said.

Further, expressing concern about the future of the Department, the AASOA stressed that frequently changing Directors and recruiting officers who don't belong from agricultural background will affect the department.

"The various schemes which have been undertaken by the Central and State governments to upgrade the agricultural sector will not be fruitful if the situation of the department is not improved," the AASOA added.
