Guwahati: After the detection of COVID-19 cases, the Bank of Baroda branch in Bhangagarh, Guwahati, has been declared as a containment zone on Monday, July 27.

"In view of the detection of COVID-19 positive cases at the Bank of Baroda, Bhangagarh, Guwahati, Kamrup Metropolitan district in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus in the said area, the Bank of Baroda premises, Bhangagarh, Guwahati, Kamrup Metropolitan District is declared as a Containment Zone with effect from July 27, 2020, until further orders and the Circle Officer, Guwahati/Dispur Revenue Circle is directed to seal the area immediately", wrote Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner in an order.

After the promulgation of the order, any unauthorized entry and exit into the containment zone shall be barred till the area is declared safe. The rules and guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus shall also be strictly enforced in the notified area.

"Any violation of this order will attract action under provisions of "The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020", "The Disaster Management Act, 2005", "The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897", and other relevant laws of the nation", Pegu further wrote in his order.To declare areas deemed as "susceptible" or "volatile" as containment areas have become the order of the day, with the sealing of localities being seen as a "chaste" measure to contain further spread of the disease. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has cautioned that the restrictions shall be strictly enforced in these Containment Zone areas. In fact, the easing of restrictions only applies to areas that do not fall under the ambit of "containment zone" orders. In these areas, only activities deemed as "essential" are allowed, as per the instructions of the Central Government.
