GUWAHATI: The Bar Council of India has condoled the demise of senior advocate Nilayananda Dutta.

In a press statement, Srimanto Sen, secretary, Bar Council of India, said, "Senior advocate Nilayananda Dutta, a doyen in the field of law who hailed from Assam, tragically passed away due to a heart attack while on holiday with his family in Coorg on September 19, 2021. In addition to his numerous contributions in the legal field, he was also a passionate cricket administrator and an international cricket umpire."

"At this tragic time, the Council, expresses its deep condolences and shares the grief with his family and friends

He was a leading light and a stalwart in the field of law. He possessed a brilliant mind with a dutiful work ethic and was a guiding force for countless junior advocates of the region. His passing is a tremendous loss for the region and the legal fraternity. The huge vacuum created by his demise cannot be filled up. We have lost one of the sharpest and most knowledgeable legal luminaries we had. We pray for his departed soul to rest in peace and for his family to have the strength to bear the loss," further stated the press statement.
