GUWAHATI: The management of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has installed barcode readers to enable faster entry into the terminal area of the airport and they will come into action from Friday, February 3.

The security personnel belonging to the Central Industrial Security Force posted at the airport will no longer scan the tickets of the passengers, instead, they will check for the barcode printed on the ticket or the boarding pass of the passengers. This process is expected to reduce the time needed for the passengers to enter the terminal because of document verification.

According to a statement, this step has been taken to facilitate faster access as well as to improve the security measures in the airport. As of date, the Guwahati Airport handles nearly 15000 passengers per day. And this huge number of passengers caused delays for several passengers, especially during the festival season. E-gates facilitating automatic entry into the departure terminal of the airport were also set up in November 2022.

LGBI Airport and Apollo Hospital also organised a health camp in the Mirzapur and Banga Panchayats of Azara on Monday and Tuesday. More than 500 people belonging to the locality took benefit of this 2-day camp which was inaugurated by Ramendra Narayan Kalita (MLA - West Guwahati) and Hemanga Thakuria (MLA - Palashbari).

The camp has medical experts related to the Ophthalmology, Medicine and Gynecology departments who also aimed to create awareness about health while providing free services to the public of the region who needed the same.

The organisation had also worked with India Tourism's Northeast Regional office to conduct a one-day skill development program for the taxi drivers operating in and out of the airport. This sensitization program was aimed at training the local drivers ahead of the ongoing G20 Meets in different parts of the state.
