GUWAHATI: The Beltola Weekly and Bi-weekly Market in Guwahati has been closed in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases without any travel history. Over the past few weeks the market was open even as weekly markets have to be closed under the COVID-19 protocol.

The indefinite closure of the market was announced this morning by the ADC and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Disaster Management Authority, Kamrup (M). The order has the approval of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M).

In its order, the ADC further said that any violation of this order will invite penal action under the relevant provision of the Disaster Management Act, 2020.

Strangely enough, a number of vendors reappeared in the market in the afternoon. The fruit market was seen closed.
