‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Awareness Camp Held at Azad Hind Club

GUWAHATI: An awareness programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme was organized by District Administration and District Social Welfare Office, Kamrup Metropolitan District at Azad Hind Club, New Colony, Pandu, Guwahati with the objective to sensitize the community on the issues and concerns related to Girl Child health, safety, education, rate of CSR etc. in the district.

There were more than 300 participants from different departments such as District Child Protection Unit, Health, Members from PCPNDT cell Kamrup(M), Councillor and members of Town Committees , CDPO and Supervisors of Central Guwahati ICDS project, NGOs etc. The gathering of the programme includes newly wedded couples, parents, adolescent girls, teacher, youth group, members of SHGs & mahila samiti, Senior Citizens, Anganwadi Workers, ANM, ASHAs, members of School Management Committee & AWC’s Management Committee of the area. In the programme, DSWO Kamrup (Metro) delivered speech on the importance of girl child including survival, protection and Education of the girl child. Dr. Kandarpa Pathak, member of PCPNDT cell ,Kamrup metro also focused on prevention of gender biased sex selective elimination in the programme. An oath taking ceremony was also held in the programme.

Healthy Girl Child competition among 03-06 years girl child was conducted and at the end of the programme the winner of the competition awarded and other participants were felicitated by the DSWO, Kamrup Metro. New Born Girl Child and local champions of the area were also felicitated in the programme. Sukanya Samridhi Account opening Form was also distributed among the girl child below 10 years. The awareness programme was ended with video display on BBBP and short play performed by the group of Vindo Smart, NGO, Guwahati. Similar Awareness programmes will be organized in the different vulnerable areas of the District by December 2019.
