GUWAHATI: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bhabesh Kalita has appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to withdraw the Personal Security Officers (PSOs) provided to party leaders in Assam.

Kalita made the appeal via a letter which he delivered personally to the Chief Minister on Saturday.

Kalita stated in the letter that he is making the request on behalf of the party as he was inspired by the "praiseworthy appeal" made by Chief Minister to this effect during celebrations of Good Governance Day on December 25 at the party office in Hengerbari here to commemorate former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's birthday.

It may be mentioned that some BJP leaders of the State have voluntarily surrendered the PSO facility in response to the Chief Minister's appeal.
