The Assam bandh has been called in support of the demand for grant of ST status to six communities of the state - Matak, Moran, Tai Ahom, Chutia, Tea Tribes and Koch-Rajbonghsi.

According to the state coordinator of Bharat Jodo Yatra-Assam, Ramen Borthakur, the programmes fixed by the APCC earlier for the Guwahati city (Kamrup Metro) for November 15, November 16 and November 17 have been rescheduled for November 16, November 17 and November 18.

Borthakur said that on November 16, the Bharat Jodo Yatra-Assam will start at 10:30 am from the Singimari Chowk and it will end at noon in the Rajiv Bhawan at Amingaon. On November 17, the Bharat Jodo Yatra-Assam will start from the Sonaram High School ground at Bharalamukh at 10:30 am and end at the Chandmari playground. This procession will cover Gauhati Club and Silpukhuri. On November 18, the Bharat Jodo Yatra-Assam will start from the Chandmari payground and end at the Bonda playground in Narengi.

Borthakur added that the programmes slated for the Morigaon, Nagaon and other districts will continue as per the earlier schedule.
