GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Gana Parishad (BGP) had its 8th annual conference on Sunday. In the conference, the state's new central committee was formed. The meeting elected Sahadev Das as president, Shanatanu Mukherjee and Rabindra Das as working presidents, Shamalendu Bhattacharjee, Subir Chakraborty, and Samad Chowdhury as vice presidents, and Biren Basak as general secretary. A 51-member committee was formed, which was joined by 20 members of the Trinamool Congress, including Shantanu Mukherjee. The meeting also said that within 2 months, the state's district and anchalik committee will be formed.
In a press statement, the Parishad said none of the political parties is focusing on issues of the linguistic and religious minorities. The political parties are instead using them as vote banks. The minorities are receiving notice as D voters, and lakhs of Bengali-speaking people are also excluded from the NRC. Also, eviction notices have been issued for the minorities in the Bodoland areas. The Bengali-speaking people has been deprived of the Basundhara 2 scheme.
So they have decided to contest the forthcoming elections in the linguistic and religious minorities' areas.
