BIEO arrested an official of Punjab & Sind Bank on criminal charges

GUWAHATI: The BIEO (Bureau of Investigation Economic Offences) has arrested an official of Punjab & Sind Bank on Monday on charges of criminal conspiracy.

Presently serving as Branch Manager, Hazrat Ganj, Habibullah Estate Lucknow in UP, the official has been arrested for criminally conspiring with the then Branch Manager of Punjab & Sind Bank, Disneyland Branch, Guwahati and one borrower named Dhrubajit Talukdar. The case is over the sanctioning of a loan amounting to Rs 30 lakhs, by flouting all rules and procedures of the bank. A complaint in this regard was submitted by the Zonal Manager of the said Bank on the basis of which a case vide BIEO PS case no 19/2019 was registered U/S 120(B)/420/406/409 IPC.

During the investigation it has transpired that the accused loan officer in connivance with the Branch Manager and the borrower got the loan sanctioned without any verification of the documents and on the basis of false and manipulated documents, the loanee availed the loan amount. The sale deed was also not submitted to the bank. Further investigation revealed that the borrower submitted his designation as an engineer of a government office Town & Country Planning.

The arrested accused was produced before the court on Tuesday following which he was sent to judicial custody.
