GUWAHATI: Bill Gates, Co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, appreciated Dr. M. S. Lakshmi Priya, Mission Director of National Health Mission, Assam, at the Empowerment through Nourishment: Celebrating Women of New India, an event organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, at New Delhi.
Gates later also posted on Twitter in this regard, expressing his appreciation for the initiatives taken by Assam to improve nutrition outcomes. Zubin Smriti Irani, Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development, and Bill Gates were present in the meeting, among others.
Dr. Priya was the only IAS officer from the country to be invited to interact with Bill Gates. Dr. Priya also presented on the key insights of the interventions at the field level to promote nutrition, mother, and child health through the Buddy Mother model under Project SAMPOORNA in Bongaigaon district, which won the Prime Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Administration under the "Innovation Category' in 2021.
Dr. Priya also thanked Bill Gates for the splendid and insightful interaction at the event. The event was organized in New Delhi on March 2.
