BJP Assam Pradesh Gears Up For By-elections

GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh is now making a strategy for contesting the by-elections in the four Assembly constituencies of Sonari, Rangapara, Jania and Ratabari. Although the by-election dates are yet to be announced, State BJP has started preparations on full steam. The saffron party has also formed a sub-committee for election management in each of the four Assembly constituencies. Various meetings are organized and special attention has been dedicated towards the membership drive for these districts.

Taking the by-election into stride, a review meeting was held by the Chief Minister on Sunday at his official residence at Brahmaputra guest-house. State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das, all the conveners’ of the sub-committees and its members of the four constituencies, union minister Rameshwar Teli, MP Dilip Saikia, among others were present in the meeting.

State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das, while addressing the press on Monday said that strategies were discussed in the meeting to ensure victory for the by-elections. He further stated that after September 15, the prishtha pramukh (page in-charge) meetings in all the four constituencies will be organized.

“There were various candidates who desired a ticket in the four constituencies. 25 candidates have applied for Sonari, 11 for Rangapara, 9 for Ratabari, and the highest was 34 candidates for Jania. The State committee will form a panel and forward the names to the National Committee”, said Dass.

The by-elections in the four Assembly constituencies of Sonari, Rangapara, Jania and Ratabari has occurred in the event of some of the sitting MLAs who contested the Lok Sabha poll coming out winner, leaving their seats in the said Assembly constituencies were vacated. Sonari MLA Topon Gogoi won the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, while Rangapara MLA Pallab Lochan Das won the Tezpur LS seat, Ratabari MLA Kripanath Mallah in Karimganj LS seat, and Congress’ Jania MLA Abdul Khaleque came out winner from Barpeta Lok Sabha seat, creating the need for by-elections in the said constituencies.

“In 2020, BJP will participate in the BTAD election which is a hundred percent affirmed. In its preparation, a party president’s meeting in the four BJP district committees of Udalgguri, Chirang, Baksa and Kokrajhar will be held while on August 22, the decisions taken in the meeting will be discussed with the party office bearers. Meanwhile on August 21, many women from all spheres will join the party”, said Dass.
