GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that the State government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has spent more budgetary allocations than the previous Congress governments in the State.

State BJP spokesperson Subhas Dutta said this in a statement on Saturday while reacting to Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia's statement on the failure of the State government to spend funds allocated in the annual Budget.

Dutta said, "In the financial year 2015-16 the Congress government in the State could spend only Rs 42,000 crore. On the contrary, the BJP-led government in the State spent Rs 82,000 crore in fiscal 2019-20. This is twice the amount spent by the Congress government. The budgetary allocations have been on the rise during the BJP rule in the State, so is their utilization. From 2001-02 to 2016-17 the successive Congress governments didn't submit 9,370 utilization certificates. However, during the BJP's period utilization certificates are being submitted on a regular basis," he said.
